A Full Mouth Restoration (FMR) is a procedure that is done to help rebuild and restore your full smile. These solutions include everything from an FMR to simple cosmetic dentistry, and the treatments may take from a few months to a few years to complete. It will depend on your individual needs and what you hope to accomplish through these treatments.

Am I a Candidate for Full Mouth Reconstruction?

If you have issues with oral health, you might very well find yourself a candidate for an FMR. Those who are eligible for an FMR include individuals who have a variety of different issues, including:

  • Worn Teeth: If your teeth get worn down veneers or lumineers are likely able to fix your problem relatively quickly and with only a couple of appointments.
  • Cracked/Chipped Teeth: Chipped/cracked teeth may be able to be salvaged in certain cases (when the cracks/chips are relatively minor), or they may require your tooth to get extracted and implants to be put in).
  • Stained Teeth: Teeth whitening treatments are available at your dentist’s office, but are usually not covered by insurance. The average teeth whitening treatment is considered cosmetic and will run between
  • Missing Teeth: If you are missing teeth you may need an FMR whether that involves implants, dentures, or other options for fully restoring your smile to its original condition.

Most people with these various conditions who don’t have extensive damage from periodontal diseases or other issues are eligible for an FMR treatment as the smile can be “rebuilt.”

What Procedures Are Involved in Smile Makeovers/FMRs?

There are quite a variety of different procedures that can make up Smile Makeovers/FMRs. The procedures that get included in FMRs will largely depend on the patient’s needs and will often include one or more of the following:

  • Teeth Whitening: Helps offset “yellow looking” teeth by using whitening agents such as bleach to brighten an individual’s smile.
  • Veneers/Lumineers: Worn down teeth can be restored and renewed with veneers or lumineers depending on the level of water teeth have experienced and the based on the needs of the individual involved.
  • Crowns: Get placed over teeth that had a cavity to protect the empty cavity drilled into the tooth from further infection.
  • Bridges: Replaces a missing tooth/teeth with a replacement that uses the teeth on either side to hold the bridge in place.
  • Implants: Replace a tooth when the damage is so bad that the tooth cannot get repaired by traditional means.

Any number of these various procedures can be a component of a smile makeover/FMR. These various procedures can also be combined to help create a procedure that gives the person’s smile a makeover/FMR so that they can feel more confident in themselves and a smile that they love.

How Much Does the Procedure Cost?

It will depend on what your FMR involves. The average FMR will cost $800 to $1500 per tooth or $30,000 to $45,000 for a complete FMR procedure.

Recovery/Healing Process

The healing and recovery process from a full FMR will last for at least 4 to 6 months. At this time, the full healing will have occurred, and implants can get placed into the mouth. Each patient, however, will experience different recovery times unique to their situation.
